2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Gallery

Is there anything quite like the G-Class? Mercedes-Benz would argue the answer to that is a resolute, Germanic "no," and point to the off-roader's decades of combining a luxury cabin with true go-anywhere AWD talents as evidence of that. Now updated with a new model, the 2019 G-Class has made its debut at the Detroit Auto Show.

The exterior is an evolution, not a revolution. The classic, boxy style is carried over to the 2019 model year, though the dimensions have changed to maximize interior space. Inside, there's an all-new dashboard design, with digital instrumentation – though given analog-style dials – and plenty of technology, borrowed from the S-Class and E-Class sedans. Haptic controls have sprouted on the steering wheel, and there's more space in both the front and second row.

Under the hood, there's a 4.0-liter V8 gas engine with a biturbo. That's good for 416 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque between 2,000 rpm and 4,750 rpm. Sales of the new SUV will kick off in the US by late 2018.
