2019 McLaren 720S Spider Gallery

British automaker McLaren has an ambitious plan to launch 18 new cars or derivatives by 2025, and latest in the series is the new 2019 McLaren 720S Spider. The convertible version of the esteemed 720S Coupe, it replaces the solid roof with an all-new single-piece retractable hard top. That opens or closes in just 11 seconds.

McLaren's carbon fiber structure was designed for both closed and open variants of the 720S from the outset, so no extra stiffening was required despite the loss of the roof. That means the Spider is only 108 pounds heavier than its Coupe sibling. Top speed is still 212 mph with the roof closed; even with it open, you'll still hit 202 mph. 0-60 mph is a mere 2.8 seconds.

Inside, the cabin has the same combination of snug focus but surprising space. McLaren's newest-generation infotainment system is present, and there's an optional electrochromatic roof that can flip between transparent and tinted at the touch of a button. Deliveries will kick off from March 2019, with the 720S Spider priced from $315,000 in the US.
