2018 Volvo XC40 Gallery

Volvo has a new SUV, and it's entering the crowded but lucrative premium small SUV segment. The 2018 XC40 borrows styling, technology, and safety systems from its bigger SUV siblings, but puts them on an all-new platform. Throw in some compact diesel and gasoline engines – with the promise of hybrids and all-electric models in time – and you have an ambitious little urban runabout.

It's more aggressively styled outside than the XC60 and XC90, but the cabin is a familiar place. Sensus, Volvo's homegrown infotainment system, is present, and the interior has that Scandinavian vibe that has been so well-received on the automaker's other recent cars. There's plenty of safety technology, too, including Volvo Cars' Pilot Assist system, City Safety, Run-off Road protection and mitigation, and Cross Traffic alert with brake support.

It'll begin production in November, with preorders being taken now.
