2017 Porsche 718 Cayman S Gallery

The 2017 Porsche Cayman S is a heavily-revised version of the German automaker's most-affordable sports car. Along with a host of chassis changes and styling updates, the Cayman S swaps out its flat-six engine for a turbocharged four-cylinder motor, marking the first time the model has offered forced induction.

The 718 Cayman S gains a significant power boost for 2017 thanks to the 350 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque available from its 2.5-liter turbo engine – an improvement not only over last year's 3.4-liter six-cylinder, but also when compared against the base model 718 Cayman's 2.0-liter turbo unit. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard, with the option of a seven-speed PDK automated manual, and all versions of the coupe feature a rear-wheel layout.

The secret sauce to the Porsche 718 Cayman S' amazing handling is its mid-engine design, which tucks the motor just behind the head of the driver and creates the ultimate pivot point for sling-shotting around a corner. The placement also gives the Porsche the unique feature of having two trunks for storing luggage – one at the rear, and one at the front of the car – which makes up in part for the lack of a back seat.
