Mercedes-AMG's line can at first glance seem calculating. After all, filling the space between the regular Mercedes-Benz cars and the niche – and expensive – AMG vehicles makes good business sense. Still, that doesn't meant they're not entertaining too.

Available in three body styles – sedan, coupe, and cabriolet – the 2017 Mercedes-AMG C43 has just one engine, a 3.0-liter V6 biturbo. It's paired with a 9-speed AMG-tuned automatic transmission with paddle shifters, along with similarly AMG-fettled 4MATIC all-wheel drive. With 362 HP and 384 lb-ft. of torque there's less power than in a more expensive BMW M3, but more than you get in the 340i xDrive.

All three put that power down smoothly courtesy of the AWD, and with the optional sports exhaust system they sing nicely, too. Inside, space can be a little cramped, particularly in the back, and the infotainment system looks a little dated compared to the whiz-bang wizardry of the latest E-Class. Nonetheless, they pack plenty of punch for the cash.
