2017 BMW X5 40e iPerformance SUV Gallery

The 2017 BMW X5 40e iPerformance is the plug-in hybrid version of the German brand's popular SUV. The 40e joins turbocharged gas-powered and diesel-powered versions of the vehicle, which also boasts a track-ready M edition.

The X5 40e iPerformance matches a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a single electric motor to produce a combined 308 horsepower. An eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard, and the vehicle is rated at 58-MPGe. It also offered roughly 19 miles of EV-only operation thanks to its lithium-ion battery pack.

Despite the presence of the battery, the BMW 40e iPerformance doesn't sacrifice much practicality in terms of cargo or passenger space – although it doesn't offer the optional third row found in other versions of the SUV.
