Google's Android camera hacked for more devices

The camera app that makes the Google Pixel run the best camera in all the smartphone universe is now available for more devices. This port of the app "Google Camera" was made available this month to almost any device running one of several Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. Today with an update, this app not only comes to more devices, it has more features for certain devices, including Zero Shutter Lag.

The port comes from developer B-S-G, a dude who appears most often in the 4pda forum (that's largely Ukranian, as it were). The app itself is fully english – not that it'd have to be, since controls are super simple. This app version comes with base version 4.4.020.163412804 – basically the newest for the Pixel.

Devices with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, 821, or 835 can take part in this app's many abilities. This includes the Essential Phone – whose photos improve greatly with this hacked app. Not every phone with one of these processors gets the full collection of top-notch features, but most have some improvement over their basic phone camera app.

Of note – the newest version of this app is best when using auto HDR+. Without HDR+, the app takes a lot longer to save. This newest version adds "zero shutter lag" to devices running HDR+. Using this app on the Google Pixel XL (the non-hacked, standard version), I end up using HDR+ at all times, it's just that good.

Devices that've had their camera phone action improve greatly with this app include both the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P, too. Users can download the app through this XDA post, but be aware: all actions taken beyond this point are the responsibility of the user – that's you!
