Google Nexus S 4G Ice Cream Sandwich update goes live

The Nexus S 4G is now officially primed for the latest version of Android, after some trying times left users wondering exactly when the update would happen. Users can check if their phone is eligible for an upgrade by going to the "About Phone" section in the Settings menu. Even if you don't check, though, eventually the update notification will pop up on your screen automatically.

When the Nexus S ICS update was first being pushed through last December, Google had to quickly yank it after numerous reports of users whose phones starting freezing and crashing. But then it fixed the bugs and starting rolling out updates yet again, but only to those with 3G versions of the Nexus S. Those with the Nexus S 4G were left behind. The update was leaked online earlier this week.

Around 3% of all active Android devices are running version 4.0 or later, while manufacturers are forced to be conservative about when they expect to get their devices updated. Several other manufacturers have pledged support for the new update, and a bunch of phones currently running an older version of Android will be eligible to upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich beginning in the coming months.
