Google I/O 2019 ticket draw is open: What you need to know

Last month, Google announced that its I/O 2019 event will take place in early May in Mountain View, California. In an update today, the company revealed that it has opened its ticket drawing to give applicants a chance at attending the developer conference. Qualified applicants have until February 27 to enter the ticket drawing; winners will be randomly selected.

General admission ticket prices for Google I/O 2019 remain the same as last year: $1,150 USD. Full-time high school and college students, professors, faculty, and school staff members may be eligible for an 'Academic' ticket, which is cheaper at $375 USD. Any member of the public, not just developers, can apply for the ticket drawing.

Ticket drawing applications will be accepted until 5PM PT / 8PM ET on February 27. It doesn't matter when the application is submitted between now and then, but Google advises against waiting until the last minute due to the risk of missing the deadline. On February 28, randomly chosen applicants who were selected from the pool of entries will be informed via email that they have the chance to purchase a ticket.

When entering the drawing, applicants will need to sign in with their Google account or use their Gmail address, fill in a form, choose the ticket they would like to purchase, and provide payment details. A pre-authorization payment will be applied to the card. Selected applicants will be charged for the ticket on February 28, while all other applicants will see the pre-authorization payment released by their bank.

A chosen applicant will have the option to cancel their ticket and get a refund until April 9. Only one entry can be submitted per person and it must involve the name on the applicant's government-issued ID. The developer conference will take place at the Shoreline Amphitheatre on May 7 – 9.
