Google, Code School partner to boost tech education for women, minorities

As announced at Google I/O this week, Google is partnering with Code School to help boost tech knowledge for minorities and women in particular. This follows the lukewarm diversity statistics the company released earlier this year, aiming to increase the pool of qualified applicants in the tech industry.

Code School addressed the partnership on its blog yesterday, saying the tech giant will be passing out thousands of free accounts that give recipients three months of free access to Code School. Combining the two, the companies aim to help minorities and women further increase their employment with tech companies.

This isn't a program open to the public, however. Instead, Google is selectively giving promo codes for the program to its own workers, and it distributed codes to some people at its conference this week. Thousands are being distributed, according to Code School.

Says the company, "The [diversity] situation is clear: we have a long way to go in order to create a diverse, open and inclusive tech community." This move is part of that mission, giving workers access to classes on a variety of industry subjects.
