Gateway MC-series 16-inch true 16:9 widescreen laptops

Gateway have announced their new MC-series notebooks, with 16-inch true 16:9 aspect widescreen displays and Intel Centrino 2 chipsets.  The two-model-strong range will comprise the MC7801u, in burgundy, and the MC7803u, in black; both have Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 2.0GHz processors, 4GB of DDR2 RAM and a 320GB 5,400rpm hard-drive.

Graphics on the MC7801u are courtesy of an integrated Intel 4500MHD video card, while the MC7803u steps up to an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650.  Both drive the display at 1366 x 768 resolution, but there's also an HDMI 1.3 output for plugging into larger displays, together with a standard VGA port.

Other connectivity includes a 5-in-1 memory card reader, four USB 2.0 ports, draft-N WiFi and gigabit ethernet.  The keyboard is backlit, as are the touch-sensitive media controls, and there's a 1.3-megapixel webcam.  Optical drive is a DVD burner, not Blu-ray sadly.

Available this month, the MC7801u is priced at $949.99 while the MC7803u is priced at $999.99.
