Garmin fenix 2 multisport GPS watch with smartphone connectivity unveiled

Garmin has announced a new GPS watch called the fenix 2. The fenix2 is an update to the original fenix watch that launched back in 2012. The fenix 2 is an outdoor GPS watch that has new training options and an updated user interface that is easier.

The fenix 2 also has expanded smartphone connectivity. The multisport functionality of the fenix 2 supports running, climbing, riding, hiking, skiing, and swimming. The watch is able to offer real time feedback on progress to help with meeting training goals. The watch also has an altimeter, barometer, and a 3-axis compass.

The watch is able to estimate the use V02 max for runners to estimate fitness levels and it can calculate recover time. The watch supports a HRM-run heart rate monitor that is able to provide feedback on running from. Fenix 2 also has Bluetooth smart capability to send workout data to the Garmin online community. The watch is also able to measure parameters for skiers like horizontal distance and vertical drop.

The GPS receiver inside the watch is able to leave digital breadcrumbs to help the person find their way back from adventures. The watch is able to store 10,000 track points and up to 1000 waypoints. That info can be shared wirelessly with other Garmin devices. The internal battery is good for up to 50 hours in GPS mode and five weeks in watch mode per charge. The watch also supports notifications for calls and more when paired with an iPhone 4S or higher. The fenix 2 will launch in March for $399.99 or $449.99 bundled with the HRM-Run monitor.
