Game of Thrones video shows how Westeros is made

Game of Thrones is an epic fantasy series, and not just in terms of genre. Each episode features eye-popping settings and fantastical creations. Though everyone knows a heavy dose of video effects go into the show's creation, you might not guess the extent to which the scenes are not real.

The video, published by Mackevision on Vimeo, shows the video effects work that went into creating season 4 of the series, layering every scene with added elements until the final by-product is revealed.

Many scenes, as the video above demonstrates, are nearly entirely computer-generated, while others start as a plain setting — a field, perhaps, or body of water — with elements tossed in, followed by lighting and details.

The use of green screens is liberal, with the video including a few scenes employing them, as well as the final scene that resulted. Are you a Game of Thrones fan? Hit up our tag portal, and check out the timeline below.
