Game of Thrones season 5 will branch off from book series, be 'bloodier'

We've all experienced it, either in person or online; someone who has actually read the 'A Song of Ice and Fire' books the 'Game of Thrones' TV show is based on brags that they know what's coming. Sometimes, they even ruin for everyone — or are annoyed when the show doesn't mimic the books exactly. With the TV show outpacing the slow pace with which George R.R. Martin pens the book series, it seems things are about to change. A lot.

According to the author, we're all on even ground, now. With the show headed into a fifth season, and Martin having only written five books, the show will naturally have to delve into its own direction. Co-creators Devid Beniof and D.B. Weiss definitely have their hands full.

In season five of 'Game of Thrones', Martin says "People are going to die who don't die in the books, so even the book readers will be unhappy. So everybody better be on their toes. David and D.B. are even bloodier than I am."

That's good news if, like me, you've been mostly let down by the lack of death and destruction over the past few seasons of the show. It's bad news if, unlike me, you've read the books and feel the on-screen depiction needs to be an accurate retelling of the books.

Game of Thrones was renewed for seasons five and six, but beyond that — nobody knows. Martin says the sixth season could even be the end of the TV show, saying "television is a very changeable medium."
