Game of Thrones details leaked in HBO data breach

Watch out, Game of Thrones fans, because it looks like HBO has suffered a data breach, putting information about upcoming episodes of the show out in the open. This isn't the first time HBO has suffered Game of Thrones leaks, whether it was by hackers or by HBO's own mistakes, so fans should be fairly used to this by now. Still, Game of Thrones wasn't the only subject of this leak, with full episodes of other HBO shows making their way onto the internet as well.

According to Entertainment Weekly, this breach saw hackers making off with 1.5 terabytes of data from HBO's servers. Leaked data allegedly includes new episodes of Ballers and Room 104. No full episodes of Game of Thrones have been leaked yet, but a partial script for the next episode – The Spoils of War – has been.

However, those hoping not to run into spoilers for Game of Thrones aren't exactly out of the woods yet. The hackers behind the data breach haven't released everything they've made off with, promising that more is coming soon. Since Game of Thrones season 7 wrapped filming quite a while back, it's entirely possible that there are full of episodes of the new season that have yet to be leaked.

For now, HBO isn't saying what kind of data was taken during the breach, only confirming that a breach occurred. "HBO recently experienced a cyber incident, which resulted in the compromise of proprietary information," the company confirmed in a statement to Entertainment Weekly. "We immediately began investigating the incident and are working with law enforcement and outside cybersecurity firms. Data protection is a top priority at HBO, and we take seriously our responsibility to protect the data we hold."

Until more information about this breach is shared, it might the best idea that you stay vigilant on the internet. For now, though, it looks like the extra precautions HBO started taking before the launch of Game of Thrones season 6 may not have been enough. We'll see if this breach worsens from here, so stay tuned.
