Galaxy S9 release preview "unlikely" at CES 2018

Samsung spoke up this week on the possibility that the Samsung Galaxy S9 would be previewed at CES 2018. "It is unlikely," said Samsung, in a chat with the Korea Herald. Instead, it's significantly likelier that the company will reveal the device's full details at an event just before Mobile World Congress.

Mobile World Congress takes place in February of 2018. The event starts on the 26th of February and ends on the 1st of March, 2018. In the past, Samsung held their event on the day just before the public opening of Mobile World Congress, on a day generally considered "Press Day." That means Samsungs next event is likely set for the 25th of February, 2018.

The Korea Herald and their "industry watchers" suggest the same – that MWC 2018 will be the home to the Samsung Galaxy S9. At that time, it's likely the next flagship Samsung handset will be revealed in full. No tiny bonus events in March like Samsung did with the Samsung Galaxy S8, no sir!

The next version of the Samsung Galaxy S line won't be a complete redesign like last year. The Galaxy S9 is instead expected to come with a slightly larger display in a body that's largely the same size as its predecessor. On the back we'll almost certainly see a setup not unlike the Galaxy Note 8.

That means a fingerprint scanner, two cameras, and an LED flash. Much like the recent release of the Apple-made iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, not to mention the iPhone X, there will be no in-display fingerprint scanner as such. The rumors have not yet met the production difficulties and their hurdles.

More information about the Galaxy S9 can be found in the timeline of articles below. We've got quite a few bits and pieces in this puzzle already constructed well ahead of any official confirmation from Samsung. Keep that in mind as you browse these webs in search of data!
