Galaxy S9 Release Date Tip, plus specs in full effect

Today we're having a peek at what Samsung is bringing to the table in early 2018. The Samsung Galaxy S9 will likely come with a body that's not extremely unlike that of its predecessor, but it'll contain technology that blasts its predecessor right in the face.

The Galaxy S9 is another case of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." After the blockbuster year in smartphone sales Samsung had this year, there's little reason for the company to change their smartphone tech. For the most part, that is to say. There'a always room for a little improvement.

This device will quite likely see a reveal date of February 24th or 25th, right around the last day of the year before Mobile World Congress 2018 begins officially. As we discussed today, the company may well be under pressure to battle the iPhone X from Apple. While we're doubtful Samsung will bring the heat to CES 2018 in Las Vegas, their usual jaunt to Barcelona wouldn't be out of the question.

We've seen some reliable renderings of the device – the devices, that is. The Galaxy S9 will likely be joined by the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus, as per usual. Both devices will almost certainly have the same Infinity Display edges as the Galaxy S8.

It's been reported that bezels on the S9 will be almost identical to the Galaxy S8. The difference will be in the size of the chin and forehead of the device, which should have smaller bezels than ever before – albeit by a TINY amount.

Above you'll see a set of specifications based on our most updated set of leaks – none of these specs are official, and all will be tested with the real deal as announced by Samsung in 2018. One item I'm still up in the air about is the thickness of both devices. We've heard the devices will be rolling with bigger batteries than before, which would indicate that the devices would be thicker. However, it could be that Samsung simply did away with their headphone jack to make more room inside the smartphone.

Word from GrownSSPer this week suggests that the devices will be in full-blown production mode by January of 2018. That idea fits quite well with the design we're seeing – very little changed, mostly the same tech, preparation for a February reveal. That'd have the release date set somewhere in March – right on time for the end of winter.
