Galaxy S11 screen leak confirms a familiar face

Samsung can't seem to make up its mind on how to go about banishing bezels and visible fingerprint scanners. After years of seemingly ignoring it, the company opted to put holes in the screen starting with the Galaxy S10. It then reduced the size of that hole and moved it to the center in the Galaxy Note 10. Now it seems that Samsung has decided that the Galaxy S10 design just doesn't work and, thanks to another leak, confirms the major design change for the Galaxy S11.

The cat known on Twitter as @Ice universe posted the photo of a screen protector intended for the Galaxy S11. It confirms that it will take its biggest design cue from the Galaxy Note 10, putting the punch hole camera at the center of its forehead. It is definitely smaller and less obvious than the Galaxy S10's but that does raise a few questions.

Samsung seems to have made the bezels around even thinner, which means less room for sensors, especially at the top. That hints that either Samsung reduced the number of sensors or used some in-display technology or tricks to make up for the change. Either way, it will all be screen on all edges.

The design isn't doing it for everyone, unsurprisingly. Some take issue with how the corners are still too rounded, in contrast to the Galaxy Note 10's squarer look. Others are worried that the smaller camera hole may mean a smaller camera sensor. It also raises the question of how the Galaxy S11+ will look like since the Galaxy S10+ had two cameras instead of one.

That isn't the only major change that the Galaxy S11 may have though the other is less visible yet more palpable. Samsung may ditch Qualcomm's ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner given the security and accuracy headaches it has caused the Korean company. If it isn't too late yet into development, the Galaxy S11 may carry a more conventional optical fingerprint scanner. At least if Samsung doesn't go back to rear sensors.
