Galaxy S10 battery sizes in contention: At what cost?

Contradictions in leaks for the Samsung Galaxy S10, S10E, and S10 Plus were revealed this morning. We've been seeing the same set of battery sizes leaked from various sources for the Galaxy S10 family for the past several months, but today's leak suggests that the batteries have a slightly different set of capacities than previously suggested. Now, with each successively larger size, we see between 300mAh and 700mAh additional capacity, according to the cost of each phone.

According to regulatory filings from TELANA, the smallest of the three standard model Samsung Galaxy S10 devices will sport a 3000mAh battery. The next largest battery was tipped to be 3300mAh – that'd be for the Samsung Galaxy S10 (standard). The Galaxy S10 Plus was tipped to have a 4000mAh battery.

In the most recent set of leaks – released in a roundup by SlashGear less than 24 hours ago – we saw ever-so-slightly different battery capacities. The Samsung Galaxy S10E had a 3100mAh battery. The Galaxy S10 had a 3500mAh battery (larger than today's report, but not quite as large as the Plus). The Galaxy S10 Plus was tipped to have a 4100mAh battery – just 100mAh larger than reported this morning.

It'd be an understandable set of difference if all three were just 100mAh different – that's negligible. But because the Galaxy S10's two battery sizes are 200mAh different, the reality of the situation likely has more to do with one report seeing an older test version of the phones, and this newest report seeing the final consumer release specifications.

Meanwhile the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus (Beyond X) – or whatever it'll be called – will likely have the largest battery of all. This device was tipped to have a 5000mAh battery. That might just be a pipe dream – but it might also have to do with the battery requirements of a 5G smartphone. The Galaxy S10 Plus (Beyond X) will be the first 5G smartphone released by Samsung.

The Samsung Galaxy S10, S10E, and S10 Plus were tipped to be revealed in full at the company's upcoming February 20th event. That same day we're expecting that the Samsung Galaxy S10 family will be put on preorder. The first date of availability for the first three devices will likely sit on or around the 9th of March, 2019.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus (Beyond X) 5G smartphone will become available in different regions at different times. This device will become available in regions according to 5G availability – likely South Korea's coming first!
