Hands-on with ASUS' S102 voice-recognition Sat-Nav

Our boy Chris Scott Barr has put down his precious Guitar Hero controller and gone for a wander around the AMD/Microsoft Tour. He'll be bringing you news of the goodies that have caught his eye, but I wanted to share these photos of ASUS' S102 GPS.

A palm-sized box that couples sat-nav functionality with a portable media player, the S102 has an 18mm-square antenna for super-tenacious signal management. Interestingly, there are several methods for finding your destination: on-screen keyboard, handwriting recognition and voice recognition, together with keyword searches to speed up the process. Once you've set your route, turn-by-turn instructions are available, as is fast re-routing should you run into traffic.

Scott was impressed with his short play, finding it to be solidly constructed and appreciating the 1GB SD card ASUS bundle (which can be used for mp3s or photos to be viewed on the 3.5-inch screen). Look for the S102 in stores soon, with a suggested retail price of $550.
