Galaxy Gear smartwatch to be available in Canada on October 4

AT&T pre-orders for the Galaxy Gear, Samsung's nifty Pebble-competing smartwatch, started earlier this week, and will be available to customers in Canada on October 4. Such information comes from Best Buy and Future Shop, both of which are now taking pre-orders for the smartwatch and list the device as arriving on the aforementioned date.

Both Best Buy and Future Shop are offering up the device for $299.99, with buyers being able to order from both retailers now. For that price, consumers get a smartwatch with a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display, the resolution coming in at 320 x 320, as well as 4GB of storage space and 512MB of RAM. There's a 1.9-megapixel camera integrated, and the battery has a capacity of 315mAh.

The camera is able to record videos in 720p HD, with it including both auto focus and a macro mode, as well as dual microphones with noise cancellation on board. Despite its size, the Gear only weighs in at a tad under 74 grams, so it won't pose a large burden on the wrist, with the casing being 11.1mm thick. The strap is made of plastic, and isn't removable due to the integration of various components.

The Galaxy Gear is being offered in a variety of colors, allowing one to accessorize to some degree. The straps come in Wild Orange, Mocha Gray, Jet Black, Oatmeal Beige, Lime Green, and Rose Gold colors, with the casing itself being made of metal. The smartwatch runs a custom variety of Android, and connectivity comes by way of Bluetooth, allowing it to be used in conjunction with a handset. We've got a full run down of the smartwatch in our Galaxy Gear hands-on.
