Galaxy A6 (2018) lands on AT&T a few months too late

Samsung just announced its most "innovative" A series smartphone last week and is close to revealing its most eccentric one next week. But while all that is happening, AT&T is just now getting a Samsung mid-range phone that seems almost too little too late. While the Galaxy A6 (2018) was indeed just announced last May and became available in the US just last month, in the grander scheme of things, it might as well have launched last year.

To be fair, the Galaxy A6 is a "true" mid-range phone in every sense of the word. You get a 1.6 GHz quad core processor paired with 3 GB of RAM and only 32 GB of thankfully expandable storage. The 5.6-inch screen only gets a 1480x720 18.5:9 resolution. There's only a single 16 megapixel camera on the back matched by single 16 megapixel camera on the front.

It's pretty much a no frills, no nonsense smartphone if you need a pretty ordinary one. It doesn't even have dual cameras, let alone the triple cameras of the Galaxy A7 (2018) or the almost ridiculous four of the still to be announced Galaxy A9 Star/Pro. Then again, not everyone is into that kind of superfluous features.

They might also not be into overpriced phones. Unlike the unlocked retail version of the Galaxy A6 (2018), AT&T's version will cost you a pretty $419.99 for the full price. Of course, you could go for a 30-month installment plan that reduces that into bite-sized $14 monthly payments.
