Galaxy A 2017 launch event invites go out, again tease water resistance

Samsung has a penchant for bringing some of its lesser smartphone lines out with the same exact names each time and then differentiating them by listing the year. That means you don't get a Galaxy A8 as we do with the Galaxy S8 devices. Rather you get the same Galaxy A each year with the year in the mix with each new generation. An invite to the launch event for the Galaxy A 2017 has surfaced.

The event will be held on January 5, which is a Thursday in Kuala Lumpur. If you follow the tech world you might recognize January 5 as the same day that CES opens in Las Vegas. You might also note that Kuala Lumpur isn't Las Vegas so this unveil is coinciding with the launch of a plethora of other new products on opening day of CES 2017 at the same time many of the press folks are in Nevada.

I'm not sure that is a particularly good idea, but Samsung is doing it anyway. The event will be held from 10:30am to 1:30pm local time. One of the rumors that has been circulating about the Galaxy A 2017 smartphone is that it would be aimed at active users and have water resistance. A teaser has turned up in the past that showed water and had verbiage reading "Hold your Breath."

That clearly hints at water resistance as a main feature. The Galaxy A 2017 invite also has water droplets spread around again hinting at water resistance. The invite also talks about people who "live life on the edge or bask in spontaneous moments" hinting at active users. This event is thought to be the global launch for the smartphone.
