Fujifilm X-S1 packs 26x zoom and EVF

Fujifilm has launched its latest X series camera, the Fujifilm X-S1, billed as the reinvention of the bridge camera. Packing a 12-megapixel sensor, 26x optical zoom and up to 10fps continuous shooting, the X-S1 has both an adjustable 3-inch display – which Fujifilm reckons can be used outdoors in sunlight – along with a 1.44m pixel EVF. There's also Full HD video recording and optical image stabilization.

The Japanese company is stressing the X-S1's premium construction, with a metal dials and an easily-gripped rubberized coating, plus the camera has the EXR sensor from the X10. That offers three modes based on lighting conditions – High Resolution for bright lighting, Wide Dynamic Range for high-contrast images, and High Sensitivity & Low Noise for low lighting – either automatically or manually selected. It's paired with Fujifilm's EXR processor which promises 0.01s shutter lag.

ISO 100 to 12800 is on offer, along with 1cm macro support. Connectivity includes USB 2.0 and HDMI, while the battery is good for up to 500 shots on a single charge. The Fujifilm X-S1 will be priced at roughly $999.99 and go on sale in Japan in December.
