Free to play games will be supported by Xbox One indie dev program

Gamers all around the world are looking forward to the launch of the new Xbox One game console later this year. Microsoft has recently announced interesting details that weren't previously announced about its program. That independent developer program is called the ID@Xbox program.

Microsoft has confirmed that it won't be placing restrictions on the distribution models available to independent developers. Microsoft's portfolio director for digital games Chris Charla recently said that independent developers will be able to use "every business model" available to any other game on the Xbox One.

Some had feared that independent developers might be restricted to different price structures and games published by major studios. What this means in a nutshell is that independent developers will be able to offer games at premium prices, micro-transactions, and free to play titles.

Charla also noted something that gamers interested independently published titles will appreciate. These independent titles will have access to all of the same features that any other game can access. That means independent games will be able to support Gamerscore, full achievements, Smartglass, and Kinect.
