Foxconn fanless PCs breaks cover

Foxconn is set to get into the fanless PC realm with two new offerings running either an Intel Atom or an AMD processor. The Intel computer is called the AT-5300, and the AMD version is called AT-5600. Both machines are the small and compact type designed easily fit into tight spaces or entertainment centers in the living room.

The 5300 uses an Intel Atom D2700 dual core processor at 2.13 GHz while the 5600 uses an AMD E450 at 1.65 GHz. The design of the case the machines use reminds me of a mashup between the Nintendo Wii and the Mac mini. Both machines are said to be available globally at under $200.

Other than the processors, the features of both machines are about the same. Each will support up to 4 GB of memory, and will have dual USB 3.0 ports with four USB 2.0 ports. The machines will have a single 2.5-inch bay, memory card readers, gigabit LAN port, HDMI out, VGA out, and Wi-Fi. The machines measure 19 cm x 13.5 cm x 3.8 cm and are VESA mountable. That means you can put them on the back of some TVs. The exact launch date is unknown at this time.
