iPhone's strong ARM tactics

A three-ARMed cellphone walks into a Cingular store.  Sounds like a joke, doesn't it?  But it's not, it's just the glistening power beneath the iPhone's shiny carapace.  The phone itself may be pure Cupertino design, but the processors that power it are straight from ARM in the UK; the company has confirmed, somewhat obliquely, that there are at least three of their processors to be found in the cellphone.

"ARM is in 90 percent of the world's [mobile phone] handsets; we're in WiFi, baseband processors and applications processors and most of the world's MP3 players. So it's at least three" Warren East, ARM Holdings plc

Still, the revelling in tech-guts didn't get much further than that, with East refusing to comment any further on what magic trickery Apple have stuffed their handset with.
