Fortnite's overpowered Infinity Blade returns for new LTM

Back in December, shortly after Fortnite season 7 kicked off, Epic added the Infinity Blade to the game. A nod to the mobile game series centered around the weapon, it quickly became clear that the Infinity Blade was supremely overpowered. Epic initially nerfed the weapon, but not even that was enough. In the end, the Infinity Blade was vaulted only days after it was introduced.

Ever since the Infinity Blade went into the vault, we haven't heard anything about it. At the time, Epic said that it would re-evaluate its approach to mythic weapons, but it gave no indication of whether or not the Infinity Blade would return. The silence surrounding the Infinity Blade was broken over the weekend, as Epic added it back to the game.

The good news is that Fortnite's main battle royale mode is still Infinity Blade-free. The weapon is making its return in a new limited-time mode called Sword Fight. It now isn't limited to just one per match, either, as it seems the weapon can drop from regular loot sources.

That means multiple people can wield the Infinity Blade at once, which is certainly one way to balance an overpowered weapon. If you've missed the Infinity Blade – or you never got to use it in the first place – it seems this is your best chance to swing it around, because it's doubtful that it will ever be balanced to the point where it can feature in the main battle royale mode again.

When Epic delivered Fortnite's v7.30 update at the beginning of the month, it said that limited-time game modes would now begin rotating every few days instead of once a week, which explains why the Sword Fight LTM went live without an accompanying content update. Spend some quality time with Infinity Blade while you can, then, because there's a chance that this LTM will rotate back out quickly.
