Fortnite stuffs the Infinity Blade into the vault

Well, that didn't take long: the Infinity Blade is leaving Fortnite just as quickly as it appeared. Epic announced that it's vaulting the Infinity Blade for the time being, giving no indication of when the weapon might return. If you were sick of falling victim to the overpowered weapon, then it sounds like you can resume playing Fortnite in peace.

Epic revealed that it's vaulting the Infinity Blade through a tweet just a little while ago. Ever since the Infinity Blade rolled out earlier this week, players have been asking for Epic to do something about how powerful it is. Earlier today, we learned about an incoming nerf for the weapon, but now it seems that Epic has decided the situation is dire enough that it's better to just remove the Infinity Blade entirely.

"We messed up and rolled out the Infinity Blade overpowered / without good counters, especially in the end game," Epic's tweet says. "The Infinity Blade has been Vaulted and we are re-evaluating our approach to Mythic items. Thanks for calling us out on this!"

That Epic would struggle with balancing Mythic items isn't much of a surprise, as there haven't been very many of them so far. Before the Infinity Blade was added to the game, the Infinity Gauntlet was the only Mythic weapon in Fortnite's history (at least as far as battle royale is concerned) and that launched with its own distinct game mode. With the Infinity Blade, Epic added it to the standard battle royale mode, meaning it was inescapable for most players.

There's no telling what Epic is going to do to balance Mythic weapons in the future, or for that matter, if we'll ever see the Infinity Blade return. For now, though, we're pretty sure that most Fortnite players won't be upset to see it go. Stay tuned, because we'll update you when we hear more.
