Fortnite is now available to all Android players

It's been a long time coming, but beginning today, you can play Fortnite on Android without an invite to the beta. Fortnite fans who have been looking forward to the mobile release have been waiting for this day for a while, but unfortunately had to sit through a few different exclusivity periods before this launch. Unfortunately, even though Fortnite is now available to the wider Android audience, you still can't get it from the Google Play Store.

That isn't likely to change, as the folks at Epic want to control all of the revenue they make from in-app purchases – a portion of which would have to go to Google if the buyer downloaded the game from the Play Store. So, the process of getting Fortnite on your phone is a little more complex than it normally would be, as you'll either have to head over to the Fortnite Android site on your phone and download the installer from there or use your phone to scan the QR code there.

Obviously, Fortnite isn't compatible with every Android phone out there, just due to the demands of the game and the wildly varying hardware across the entire Android ecosystem. However, Epic did share a full list of phones that will run the game, which you can see below:

It's been just over a year since Fortnite's Battle Royale mode launched on PC, and in that time, the game has spread to a variety of different platforms. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 were among the first non-PC platforms to receive the game, with the iOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch versions all launching this year. If you want to take the game for a spin on Android and you have one of the phones listed above, you grab it today from the official Fortnite site.
