Ford announces Sync AppLink support for Kaliki app

Ford has offered its Sync system in a number of its automobiles for several years now. The system allows control of many of the cars infotainment system functions using only the driver's voice. Ford also has a newer feature for some Sync equipped vehicles called AppLink.

AppLink allows the driver to control certain smartphone applications using their voice. The latest smartphone app to gain support for AppLink is Kaliki. Kaliki is an audio newsstand that allows drivers to listen to certain newspaper and magazine content from major newspapers and other publications.

The app offers content from some of the most popular magazines and papers in the world such as Shape Magazine, TV Guide, Men's Fitness, and many more. With the app now supporting AppLink, drivers with properly equipped Ford vehicles and a smartphone linked to the system via Bluetooth can press the voice button on the car steering wheel and say "Kaliki" to launch the app and have content read to them.

Not only can the driver launch the app using their voice, but they can also say the name of the publication they want to hear articles from after the program has launched. The steering wheel buttons will also allow the user to play and pause content without having to take their eyes or hands off the steering wheel. AppLink is currently available for more than 1 million vehicles including the 2013 Fiesta, Mustang, Expedition, Fusion, and many other Ford vehicles.
