Food Network Kitchen arrives on Amazon Echo Show and Fire devices

The previously announced Food Network Kitchen platform has officially arrived on Amazon's Echo Show smart displays and its various Fire devices, including the Fire TV and Kindle Fire tablets. The service is also available on iOS and Android mobile devices, and Discovery is planning to launch it on other devices later on next year. Users can expect more than 25 interactive and live shows weekly.READ: Echo Show 8 adds 3rd smart display with Alexa Food Network tie-in

Amazon's deal with Food Network Kitchen was announced in late September with the unveiling of the new Echo Show 8, a larger version of the previously launched Echo Show 5 smart display. With Food Network Kitchen, users can access interactive and live cooking classes every day, as well as hundreds of on-demand classes.

Smart displays are uniquely suitable for use in the kitchen — they're easy to position on a counter, where they can be used to pull up recipes and videos using voice commands, eliminating the need to touch the screen while cooking. As with its other Echo devices, Amazon's Echo Show 8 has a built-in speaker and the Alexa assistant.

Through Food Network Kitchen, users are given access to hundreds of instructional cooking videos that feature step-by-step instructions, as well as an 'advanced' search feature, a curated collection of some Food Network shows related to certain ingredients and recipes, and more.

Food Network Kitchen isn't free, though Discovery does have a deal in place to kick things off. The service comes with a long 90-day trial, after which point users have the option of signing up for a discounted annual price of $47.99/year — that works out to four bucks a month, but needs to be paid in full upfront.
