Flame Firefox OS developer phone released for shipping

The first developer-friendly Firefox OS smartphone has been made available to the public with the name "Flame" and a setup prepared for the mid-tier. This device works with a 4.5-inch display with FWVGA resolution (that's 854 x 480 pixels) and a Qualcomm processor inside. The Flame will be available through EverBuying at first, and will be served updates by T2Mobile.

This device is ready to take on the mid-tier with a both that's standard and a price that's surprisingly low. At $170 USD, this is easily the least expensive Developer Phone or Reference Design we've ever seen. With configurable RAM, Mozilla suggests this device will be able to "emulate many different devices that will be commercially available later this year."

The Flame comes with a Qualcomm MSM8210 Snapdragon dual-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz. You'll find 256MB to 1GB of RAM inside – again, adjustable by the developer working with the phone.

Also inside is dual-SIM support, a battery at 1800mAh, WiFi: 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, and Micro USB. There's no microSD card slot and 8GB of built-in storage – though this shouldn't matter especially much since you're doing everything on the web anyway.

A 5-megapixel camera on the back of this device with auto-focus and a single LED flash is joined by a front-facing camera at 2-megapixels. Inside is A-GPS and NFC as well. This device will take a whopping four weeks to ship – have fun!
