Fitbit teams with Amazon for voice-friendly fitness

This week the folks at Fitbit have joined forces with the folks at Amazon to bring Amazon Echo voice assistant compatibility to the wearable fitness universe. This setup includes the ability to ask Alexa what Fitbit is thinking. You can't talk directly to Fitbit – Fitbit doesn't even understand what you're saying. That's just silly. You talk to Alexa with your Amazon Echo and Alexa will know what to do. Alexa can speak Fitbit.

Tim Roberts, Executive Vice President of Interactive at Fitbit suggests that this new skill for Alexa is both entertaining and provides a new outlet for Fitbit users to access their data. They'll be able to "stay on top of their health and fitness goals" with Alexa now, asking her how they're doing.

"Our integration with Alexa gives you hands-free access to your data, so you can find out when you walk in the door at the end of the day what your step count is in seconds, and know if you need to go on a quick walk before dinner," said Roberts.

"As we look at how this integration could evolve in the future, there is an endless world of possibilities from fitness coaching and nutrition tips, to guidance before bedtime to help you get a more restful night's sleep."

So just to be clear, technology has not advanced to the point where you're able to talk directly to your Fitbit. You need an Amazon Echo or Fire TV or Fire TV Stick, etc., which use Alexa who will talk to Fitbit for you.

You'll be able to enable the new Alexa skill in Amazon Echo, Amazon Fire TV, Fire TV Stick, Echo Dot, and Amazon Tap. You'l connect with your Fitbit App and your Fitbit tracker.
