Fitbit Alta debuts with fashion-friendly colors, design

Hot on the heels of the unveiling of the Fitbit Blaze at CES last month, Fitbit is back with the announcement of another new fitness wearable, the Alta. Unlike the large-screen Blaze, the Fitbit Alta features a more typical bracelet-style design, with a minimal screen that displays just the right amount of information. Priced at $130, the wearable also comes with several color and texture options to keep it fashionable, not to mention swappable bands.

The Alta is capable of tracking all the usual activities that other Fitbit devices have handled, including basics like steps and exercise, sleep patterns, reminders to move, as well as smartphone notifications. There's no heart rate monitoring, but one of the Alta's big advancements is Fitbit's new SmartTracker, which can automatically recognize when exercise has begun, what type it is, and start tracking the details.

As for customization, the standard rubberized band comes in four colors, including black, blue, plum, and teal, selling for $30. Leather bands will be available for $60, while the top of the line option is stainless steel for $100.

Fitbit is accepting pre-orders for the Alta starting today on their website, while a number of retailers offer presale options from tomorrow. The wearable will be available in the US starting in March, with a global release in April.
