Final Fantasy VII Remake release hit with last-minute delay

Those of you waiting to play the first part of Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII Remake will have to wait just a little while longer. Originally scheduled to release on March 3rd, 2020, Square Enix has decided to delay the game's global release. The good news, however, is that you won't have to wait too much longer to play it, as it's only been delayed by about a month.

Square Enix revealed today that the game's new release date is April 10th, 2020. In a statement published on Square Enix's website, Final Fantasy VII Remake producer Yoshinori Kitase said that the game needs a little bit of polish, which is a common reason for these late-stage game delays.

"We are making this tough decision in order to give ourselves a few extra weeks to apply final polish to the game and to deliver you with the best experience possible," Kitase wrote. "I, on behalf of the whole team, want to apologize to everyone, as I know this means waiting for the game just a little bit longer. Thank you for your patience and support."

Of course, Final Fantasy fans have already been waiting a long time for this game to come out. Final Fantasy VII Remake was first revealed way back at E3 2015, and after that, Square Enix went mostly silent on the remake as it worked on Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III. Final Fantasy VII Remake resurfaced in a big way at E3 2019, which is where Square Enix revealed the game's previous release date of March 3rd.

So, while we'll have to wait a little bit longer for the game, it isn't as if fans of Final Fantasy VII aren't already used to that. Hopefully the release date doesn't change as we move forward from this delay, but we'll keep an eye out for more news in any case.
