Final Fantasy VII Remake demo leaks online, which means spoilers are out there

Now that we're into 2020, we're only a couple of months away from the launch of Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII Remake. It seems that the company was planning to launch a demo for the game, because that demo has leaked online. Those with hacked PlayStation 4 consoles were able to download the demo and play through it, and on top of all of that, it appears that the demo included a number of files pertaining to the full game.

That, of course, means that spoilers for the full game – even potentially the second episode of Final Fantasy VII Remake, which still doesn't have a release date – are out in the wild. We won't talk specifically about those spoilers here, but just know that there are threads on both Twitter and Reddit that discuss weapons, abilities, bosses, returning characters, and more.

There are some who have uploaded gameplay footage of the demo to YouTube too. If you're so inclined, you can see the first part of one such playthrough embedded above, but obviously those who want to go in fresh will want to skip the video. It's surprising that these demo playthroughs haven't been removed from YouTube yet, but we're guessing the New Year's holiday had something to do with that. In other words, don't be surprised if that video above stops working sometime after this article has been published.

Needless to say, if you're not looking to have aspects of Final Fantasy VII Remake spoiled – whether that's because you've never played Final Fantasy VII or you don't want to know what's changed in the remake – it's a good idea to stay away from social media and forum threads discussing the demo.

Square Enix hasn't even confirmed a release date for this demo yet. Since users with hacked PlayStation 4s were able to download the demo and play it, though, that suggests Square Enix was gearing up to release it. Hopefully we'll get some official news on the matter soon, so stay tuned for that.
