Final Fantasy VII Remake box art confirms PS4 timed exclusivity

We're quickly closing in on the debut of Square Enix's Final Fantasy VII Remake. The first part of the remake will launch for PlayStation 4 on March 3rd, 2020, and since that's the only release information Square Enix has given thus far, it's led many to believe that this is a PlayStation 4 exclusive. As it turns out, it will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive to start, but it won't stay that way forever.Final Fantasy VII Remake will be a timed exclusive for the PlayStation 4, and we're actually learning about that from an image of the game's box art. As shared by Wario 64 on Twitter, the box art for Final Fantasy VII Remake states that the game will be a PlayStation 4 "timed exclusive until 3/3/21."

So, in other words, PlayStation 4 owners will have the first part of Final Fantasy VII Remake all to themselves for a year before it comes to other platforms. Square Enix hasn't confirmed plans to bring Final Fantasy VII Remake to other platforms yet, but judging from this box art, we'll probably be hearing about PC and Xbox One releases before long.

It makes sense that the Final Fantasy VII Remake will be a timed exclusive for the PlayStation 4. Not only has Sony been aggressive in striking exclusivity deals for the PlayStation 4 this generation, but the original version of Final Fantasy VII was a console exclusive for the the first PlayStation.

So, at the end of it all, it isn't surprising to see that Final Fantasy VII Remake will be a timed exclusive for PlayStation 4, as disappointing as it may be for those playing on other platforms. We'll see how long it takes Square Enix to make announcements about the Xbox One and PC versions, so stay tuned for that.
