Fallout 4 Survival Mode goes into beta next week

One of the most eagerly-anticipated updates to Fallout 4 isn't necessarily the new DLC that dropped yesterday. Instead, many players are looking forward the new challenges that they'll face in the upcoming Survival Mode. The original Survival Mode wasn't quite the hardcore challenge that they wanted, so Bethesda has been hard at work on something a little more realistic.

While they haven't given a solid release date for the big changes, we do have some insight on when we can expect it. Yesterday the official Bethesda account tweeted that the new Survival Mode would be entering Steam beta next week. What's more, Bethesda's Pete Hines followed up to announce that once the beta period ends, it will get released on Steam and sent to Microsoft and Sony to be updated on their respective consoles.

There's no word on how long the beta period will last. It's most likely that it will simply run until they're able to ensure that everything is running smoothly enough to be released to the general public.

So what changes can you expect out of the new, more brutal Survival Mode? You'll need to take better care of yourself in the Commonwealth, as you'll now need to eat, drink, and sleep proper amounts to maintain your basic health stats. Combat will get harder, as weapons will do more damage both to you, and to your enemies. Oh, and plan some extra time to get from point A to point B, as there won't be any fast travel for you.
