Facebook videos now play sound by default: How to turn it off

Facebook's update this week turns Facebook News Feed video sound on by default – so we've got to turn it back off again. While Facebook assures users that they've done testing with sound on by default with the social network's News Feed. They say their testing suggests that feedback for sound on by default was received positively. But JUST in case there's anyone out there who'd rather not hear videos without tapping, we've laid out here how to turn it off.

Turning Facebook News Feed video's audio off is relatively easy. Users on Android devices should find the three horizontal lines – the menu button – and scroll down. Find App Settings and tap it, then flip the switch for "Videos in News Feed Start with Sound" so it reads "Off."

All iPhone users will find the settings for this sound situation in a slightly different place. Tap the three horizontal lines icon, first, then scroll down and tap Settings. Tap Account Settings, then Sounds after that. Finally flip the switch to turn "Videos in News Feed Start with Sound" to the off position. All iPad users will take a similar approach to the iPhone. In the Facebook app tap the three horizontal lines and tap Settings. Tap Account Settings, then tap Sounds. Finally flip the switch for "Videos in News Feed Start with Sound" to the off position.

Facebook wishes to assure all users that they're able to "control the volume of the videos you see as you scroll in News Feed with the sound settings of your mobile device," too. I'd rather mess with the audio settings once I want to see a video, not the other way around.
