Facebook "Look Back" video editing confirmed incoming

Facebook users unhappy with the custom curation of their "A Look Back" videos released to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the social site will soon be able to edit what's included, it's been confirmed. The Look Back clips, roughly a minute long and made up of most-Liked, commented-on, and other highlight moments from each user's timeline since they joined the social network, were rolled out earlier this week, but some were disappointed by which parts were picked and which were left out.

That's going to be addressed in the near future, however, a Facebook spokesperson confirmed to TechCrunch, with basic editing tools to be added.

"We will be launching an Edit feature soon that will allow people to change moments in their movies or update the ones they shared" the spokesperson confirmed. An exact timescale for its addition is unknown, but the tool "will enable people to remove a post from the movie that was pre-selected and change it to a different one."

According to insiders, the Edit feature was actually meant to be included in Look Back from the outset, but technical issues delayed it.

The expectation is that Facebook will ramp up the number of custom videos it offers using the curation technology, giving users the option to package up the more meaningful events into highlight reels they can easily share. HTC tried something similar on the HTC One, later adding the ability to change the background music and make longer clips than the default.

Facebook hasn't said anything about more in-depth edits being possible, like adjusting the order of clips or switching out the backing track to one of the user's own choosing; indeed, the latter could be fraught with copyright headaches.
