Facebook gets 5 new emoji to compliment the "like" button

When you see a friend post a status about something bad that's happened to them, people tend to instinctively go for the "like" button. That's how people on Facebook show their support. But with just the one option, is the message you're sending being read as "I support you during this hard time" or "I like the fact that this happened to you"? Well, very soon, you'll have some new options for responding to status updates.Back in October of last year, Facebook announced that it was testing out some new emoji that could be used to convey a larger range of emotion outside of simply "liking" a status. Along with "like" we saw six new potential responses that the company was testing. Well, they've nearly completed their tests, and are almost ready to roll out the new feature.Curiously, they removed the emoji for "yay," saying that it was "not universally understood." I suppose anyone wanting to use it could just stick to the old-fashioned "like" button instead.Once the update rolls out in the next few weeks, all you'll need to do is tap and hold down the "like" button to see your other options. I'm guessing that we'll start seeing how many "haha's" and "wow's" each of our statuses get, not long after. Personally, I would have been happier to just see a "dislike" button, but apparently it was seen as too negative by the company.Of course, this is all just a moot exercise. After all, no one really cares about you on Facebook anyway.
