Facebook and Flipboard official apps confirmed for Windows 8

Microsoft Build 2013 has kicked off and some of the initial talk has focused on Windows 8 apps. There was the stat related chatter about how the Windows Store is closing in on 100,000 apps, however there was also some details revealed on new apps. Simply put, Windows 8 users will soon have official apps coming from Facebook and Flipboard.

The details for both of these apps are still on the lighter side, however they were shown as being installed on an 8-inch Acer device that was running the Windows 8.1 update. A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed to The Verge that these two apps are official and coming soon.

Otherwise, touching back on those stats and we find a Windows Store that is "approaching" the 100,000 milestone. While that number will certainly be a marking point, the Windows Store was also said to have provided hundred of millions of downloads up until this point.

Aside from a few new apps, there will also be some developer related feature additions to the Windows Store with the 8.1 update. Some of these goodies include improved analytics dealing with app views, ratings and usage as well as support for 'Mature' rated games and more information for developers dealign with crashes.
