Explora launches Nexus 5 rentals for travelers

Smartphones are a daily tool for many people, and nothing makes that reality quite as stark as crossing a border into international lands without a plan that supports such travel. For those visiting the US, Google's Nexus 5 is now being offered as a daily rental handset complete with unlimited service.

The rental is being offered by Explora, which offers travelers a Nexus 5 for a flat rate of $8 per day, shipping the phone directly to one's designated hotel or living address in the States. Shipments come with a pre-paid return envelope to send it back.

The Nexus 5 is shipped with 40 pre-loaded apps, and offers unlimited calls, texts, and 4G data during the rental period. The idea is that while the rental fee will certainly add up over time, for those who aren't abroad for terribly long, the benefits will ultimately trump the hassle of going a different route.

Travelers will be subjected to repair or replacement costs if they damage the phone beyond normal wear or lose it, and have the option of cancelling their reservation up to 5 days before they're set to get the phone (which is reserved through the company's website).
