Elon Musk's Boring map shows how LA may be changed forever
When faced with death-inducing traffic, most people will think of flying cars or at the very least, more highways and flyovers. Not one to settle for common answers, Elon Musk presented a boring solution instead. That is, one that bores underground to create tunnels for high-speed skates to carry cars from point A to point B. Now the controversial genius has released a map of the grand plan for tunnels that will practically transform Los Angeles from below, revealing The Boring Company's not so boring ambitions.
Underground tunnels are nothing new, of course. But an underground network of tunnels with electric skates that ferry cars at speeds of up to 200 km/h, some people definitely think Musk has finally lost it. It may not be as grandiose as colonizing Mars or even a hyperloop train, but, considering how closer to home it is, it is actually harder to get government approval, much less the public nod.
The map released by The Boring Company shows where the current test tunnel is as well as, more importantly, where Musk intends to expand. The line in red that goes from West LA to Culver City is where the so far only approved 10 km proof-of-concept tunnel will run. That's Phase 1.
Phase 2 is marked in Blue, showing the full extend of the Boring company's ambitions, from Sherman Oaks in the north to Long Beach Airport in the south, from Dodger Stadium in the east all the way to the coast in the West.
And, of course, it doesn't end there either. Those are just the tunnels that run across the stretch of LA. Musk wants to go "3D" in the future, where layers can be added underneath, or above, to accommodate a bigger volume of cars instead of widening roads like we do above ground. It's pretty much your subterranean highway network, which the ground above will hopefully be able to support.
