EA recants on Rock Band

Though earlier this week hundreds of owners of the iOS app Rock Band were sent a message with a death notice on it for months end, EA games now says nay. This message we're speaking about said quite specifically that on May 31, the game Rock Band would "no longer be playable on your device" – now Electronic Arts is saying that the message itself was a complete error. Speculation for this chain of events includes EA reacting to backlash from their own announcement as the gaming world was certainly not happy at the news once it dropped this week.

Sending a message out to CNET this week, EA noted that the message was nothing more than an error, but refrained from saying how on earth such a message could possibly have been sent. Especially considering the specificity of the message, it including some fancy additions like "Thanks for rocking out with us!" EA's message today says something quite different:

"Rock Band for iOS will remain live – the in-app message users received yesterday was sent in error. We apologize for the confusion this caused. We're working to clarify the issue that caused the error and will share additional information as soon as possible." – EA Games

This also comes in opposition to what EA games added to an FAQ just today as well, it saying that they would be "suspending support of ROCK BAND after May 31 and focusing resources on other EA titles." It's certainly not the most pleasing thing in the world to think about what a game company must go through to support several games at once as this mobile landscape changes so rapidly, but EA certainly must have understood the rules of the game before joining the fray. That said, have a peek at our post by the name of You don't actually own your apps.
