EA Origin Access Premier launches next week

Back at E3, EA made a rather surprising announcement that revealed a new subscription tier for its Origin Access service. Dubbed Origin Access Premier, this new tier will give subscribers full access to the company's latest releases. In many cases, in fact, a Premier subscription will grant users early access to EA's new titles like Battlefield V and FIFA 19, allowing those subscribers a chance to play them before everyone else.

When EA announced this new subscription tier last month, it didn't give us a launch date. That all changed during a recent conference call with investors, in which the company announced that Origin Access Premier will be launching next week.

When it does, existing Origin Access accounts will become basic accounts and subscribers will be given the option to upgrade. Existing accounts are changing in name only, as basic accounts will continue offering a 10% discount on purchases from Origin, Play First Trials that allow early access to new games, and access to the EA Vault, which is a library of the company's older titles. The price of basic accounts will stay the same too, clocking in at $4.99 per month.

Upgrading to a Premier account still grants that 10% discount and Vault access, but in a freshly-published FAQ, EA says that subscribers will get "full, unlimited access to our games, starting five days before they launch." Access will remain unlimited as long as you maintain your subscription, which is set to $14.99 per month.

So, if you're looking forward to incoming titles like Battlefield V, Madden 19, or FIFA 19, but you don't like the idea of dropping $60 for each of them, it sounds like getting a Premier subscription might not be a bad way to play through them all. It's also worth pointing out that EA is planning to offer Anthem through Origin Access Premier, but we've a while longer to wait for that one. What do you think of this new tier to Origin Access?
