Duet Display second screen app for iOS and OS X now available

Earlier this week we detailed Duet Display, an app that'll turn your iOS device into a second screen for your Mac, giving you an extended display in situations when you need more screen real estate but don't have a monitor around to utilize. The app wasn't available at the time, but it didn't take long for it to drop, and as of now you can grab both the iOS and the Mac varieties, breathing new life into that old iPad.

Duet Display is promised to trump other second screen options out there, with its makers saying it has no lag and is high-quality. You can see those claims substantiated for yourself in the demonstration video below. In addition to extending your Mac's display, it supports the iPad's touchscreen functions, as well.

The application was made by a team of former Apple engineers, and aims to increase productivity among users. The connection between the devices is accomplished using a lightning or 30-pin cable, whichever is applicable to your device; it is entirely plug and play.

Duet Display for Mac is free, but the iOS version will run you $9.99 USD on iTunes and use up about 50MB of space. You'll need to be running iOS 5.1.1 or later to use it, and aside from the iPad, the app also supports the iPod touch and iPhone (optimized for iPhone 5).
