Dual-screen Toshiba Libretto W100 up for expensive preorder

Toshiba still hasn't confirmed exactly when in July its dual-touchscreen Libretto W100 will go on sale, nor at what price, but at least one Japanese retailer is already offering the compact clamshell for 124,800 yen ($1,379).  This particular model packs integrated WiMAX, which will likely have edged the price up, though the retailer is saying it may not come into stock until August 2010.

Previously we've heard talk of a roughly $1,000 price tag for the W100 in the US, or £800 to £1,000 in the UK.  That makes it around twice the price of the iPad, though we suppose you are getting twice the number of displays, but of course the Libretto runs the full Windows 7 OS rather than the cut-down iOS of the Apple slate.

Still, this is definitely one for the early-adopters only, and we're more interested in seeing what Toshiba do with their feedback and how it might shape the next-gen model they're talking about.  For more on the Libretto W100, check out our hands-on report from earlier in the week.
