Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze hits Switch in this week's eShop update

It's that time of week again, with Nintendo announcing the lineup of games scheduled to hit the eShop over the next week. While many of 2018's eShop updates have been headlined by popular indie games, that isn't the case this week. Instead, we've got a new Nintendo-crafted game leading the pack, kicking off a string of first-party Switch releases over the next couple of months.

That game, as Switch owners probably already know, is Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. A port of the Wii U title by the same name, this Switch version will have a few enhancements here and there but for the most part stay true to the original. If you missed it on Wii U, as many probably did considering that console's low lifetime sales, this is definitely a platformer to consider on the Switch.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze isn't the only platformer of note launching on the Switch eShop this week. It'll also be joined by Nihlumbra, an adventure platformer, and Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Ultimate Edition. Here's the full list of games hitting the eShop over the course of the next week.

Later on this month, Nintendo will also launch Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition, which is another enhanced port of a Wii U game. Then, in June, we enter uncharted territory with the release of Mario Tennis Aces. We've also got a new Super Smash Bros title for the Switch coming up at some point this year, so 2018 is looking pretty decent from a first-party perspective.

Of course, Nintendo is also likely to reveal some new first-party titles at E3 in June. The company has already detailed some of its plans for its E3 presentation, noting that the games it highlights during its usual broadcast will be ones that are releasing before the end of the year. Hopefully we've got some big reveals to look forward to, but then again, most Switch owners will probably be satisfied just seeing Super Smash Bros in action.
